Was hast du im  Urlaub gemacht?

(What did you do on vacation?)

As you can see, the question being put up here is im Perfekt, the answer should also be in Perfekt.

Let’s first learn a few word that are important :

 

der Urlaub / die Ferien

(holiday /vacation)

Das Verb	Perfekt	Meaning
reisen	ist gereist	to travel
übernachten	hat übernachtet	to stay overnight
besischtigen	hat besichtigt	to visit

 

Now let’s do a few sentences that you can use to talk about your vacations:

 >> Im Urlaub war ich in Spanien. (I was in Spain on vacation)

      Ich habe in Spanien einen Urlaub gemacht. (I went on a vacation to Spain).

>> Ich habe mit meiner Familie eine Reise gemacht. (I went on a trip with my family)

You can use :

ð  Reisen = eine Reise Machen    (To travel = to go on a trip)

So alternatifly you can say :

ð  Ich bin mit meiner Familie gereist (I traveled with my family)

 

Sometimes you might just not do anything on your vacation :

>> In den Ferien bin ich zu Hause geblieben. (I stayed at home during the holidays)

 

When you talking about your vacation there are a few questions you should be able to answer :

Wo warst du?

(where were you?)

*) In lesson 41 we did the verb waren and haten, this other past form from sein and haben.

Now let’s do a possible answer to this questions :

 

die Insel = island                               die See = sea                      die Verwandten = relatives/kerabat der Strand = beach                          die Weltreise = round the world trip

*) With spesific places we use spesific preposition, an der Ostsee.

 

If you are talking about where you went, you can say :

 >> Im Urlaub sind wir nach New York geflogen/gefahren. ( We flew/drove to New York on Vacation)

Here also you can use various answer.

 

Mit wem warst du?

(with whom were you?)

Let’s look at the possible answer :

 

unterwegs : on the go/on the way            allein = alone/sendiri

Also remember, that mit is dativ preposition, so you have to use the article accordingly.

 

Wo hast du Übernachtet?

(where did you stay overnight?)

 

Do remember to use the correct preposition. With person, you would use bei.

Der/die Bekannten : acquaintance/kenalan                         Gastfamilie : host family               die Jugendherberge : youth hostel                                           Das Zelt = tent

 

Was hast du gemacht? / Was habt ihr gemacht?

Now, here are a few activities that one could do on a vacation. This are just a few examples:

*do remember to use the sentences in Perfekt.

ð  Wir haben viel gegessen.         

(We ate a lot)

ð  Ich habe meine Oma besucht.

(I visited my grandmother)

ð  Wir haben die Sehenswürdigkeiten besichtigt.

(we did sight-seeing)

ð  Wir haben viele Souvenirs gekauft.

(We bought a lot of souvenirs)

ð  Ich habe mich erholt. / Wir haben uns erholt.

I relaxe / we relaxed.

ð  Wir haben uns in die Sonne gelegt.

We had a sunbath.

ð  Ich habe mit meiner Familie Zeit verbracht.

I spent time with my family.

ð  Wir haben viel Sport getrieben.

We did a lot of sports.

ð  Ich bin jeden Tag viel gerannt.

I ran a lot everyday.

ð  Wir haben einen Stadtbummel gemacht.

We went for a stroll throught the city

ð  Ich habe einen Roman gelesen.

I read a novel.

die Sehenswürdigkeiten  = tourist attraction                       das Souvenir = souvenir Zeit verbringen (hat Zeit verbracht) = to spend time         der Stadtbummel = stroll through the town

  

Here are a few more activities that you could do im Urlaub :
